New public awareness campaign on alcohol

We know that Blue Zones populations tend to incorporate light alcohol use in their diets and daily lives. Drinking can be a good way to unwind at the end of the day or to enjoy the company of friends. But it’s important to know your limits. The United Kingdom has launched a new public awareness campaign aimed at increasing awareness of the amount of alcohol in different drinks. Public health officials believe that U.K. drinkers don’t realize how much alcohol they drink, in part because of higher alcohol concentrations and larger glasses. These health officials want to underscore the damaging effects that drinking in excess can have on overall health.

The Blue Zones lesson is that if you drink, to do so in moderation. If you’d like to read a primer on the benefits of red wine, click here.
