How To Eat To Control Your Diabetes

There is a very concise New York Times article on what and how to eat to keep diabetes in check that I recommend you all check out. The article highlights the diabetic food pyramid, the glycemic index debates and reports on new research out of the Mayo Clinic and the National Institute of Health.

Key points from the article?

“One in four people born today are expected to develop Type 2 diabetes during their lifetimes.” Yipes!

“Shedding excess weight and exercising more can cut Type 2 diabetes risk by 58 percent.” Yeah!

“Favoring foods in their unrefined state -- brown rice and whole grains, for instance -- can help keep blood sugar levels from spiking.” Think fiber people!

“Exercise improves blood sugar control by increasing insulin sensitivity.” One more good reason to hit the treadmill!
