Be Nice to Your Cravings!

A recent study published in the American Journal of Public Health reveals that feeling fat may be as bad for your mental and physical health as actually being overweight.

How to be kind post-cake?

If you indulge and you feel a tinge of guilt, get moving! No, you don’t have to go for a two-hour run, but get out of the house and go for a walk. It will help your body digest and may clear your head from those guilty feelings. A little endorphin rush will have you feeling great in no time!

Don’t keep indulging.

I’ve done it many times before. You’re eating healthy, and then a trip to Arby’s happens, and all of the sudden you’re stopping for M&M’s at the gas station and adding side of fries and a Guinness to your order. What happened? We associate food with pleasure and rich foods all the more. Indulge, but be mindful at your next meal. Think 90/10. Eat well 90 percent of the time. Junk out 10 percent. And don’t be overly critical of the junk fests when they do occur!

Let Go!

Whenever I feel really panicky after eating say, a whole pie I try to remember no one got fat on Thanksgiving. It’s all about daily habits, not occasional indulgences. If you live a life of good eating habits be calm and collected on those occasions when you choose to indulge. Just be sure you think about food and eating as a series of habits and choices. Not a whirlwind of excitement that is happening to you without your consent. We can all too easily get caught up in the pleasure of food (one more martini? Sure! Chili with my fries? Why not!) and not realize we may in fact be causing our bodies long term pain.
