The Blue Zones Project Came to Our City and Changed Our Lives
When the Blue Zones Project came to Lynn Stansbery’s city of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she was ready to make a positive life change. She had just been diagnosed with sleep apnea, type 2 diabetes, fibromyalgia, restless leg syndrome, and obesity. She had also just rebuilt her home after disastrous flooding.
“I decided I wanted to see my grandchildren grow up, graduate, get married, and have children. I want to be a great-grandmother one day.”
Lynn learned the Blue Zones lessons, became more active, started eating healthy, and lost over 100 pounds. She also became closer to her family in the process. She tells her inspirational story in the video below of how and why she remade her health and life.
About the Blue Zones Project
We are taking secrets discovered in the blue zones, or longevity hotspots around the world, and using them to transform cities and towns. Our goal is to create vibrant communities where residents are happier, healthier, and more engaged with each other.
Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Thanks to the Blue Zones Project, Cedar Rapids has the state’s first green bike lanes. The city also saw a nearly 6 percent increase in fruit and vegetable consumption, a marked increase in the number of people exercising, and a marked decrease in overall obesity.
Cedar Rapids and other Iowan Blue Zones communities are featured in The Blue Zones Solution: Eating and Living Like the World’s Healthiest People.
