Healthcare industry leader specializing in health system strategy, community well-being, health equity, and assessments and implementation.
Monica has served the healthcare industry for several decades, starting as a pediatric ICU nurse, and working her way to executive leadership. Monica has held positions in several health systems such as chief quality officer and chief strategy officer, having responsibility for quality, regulatory compliance, business development, physician arrangements and community integration. Through these roles, Monica had oversight and accountability for the community health needs assessment and implementation plans process required of all nonprofit hospitals, providing her a growing awareness of the significant structural and social factors that impact a person’s health and well-being. This awareness turned into passion.
Prior to joining Blue Zones, Monica served as the product executive for Adventist Health leading the development and implementation of CalAIM (a 6-billion-dollar California initiative to address the non-medical factors impacting health among those most in need) in Adventist Health’s California footprint. Immediately prior to that, Monica served as the business development and community well-being executive for Adventist Health and Rideout, leading the growth of the business strategies and the development of programs such as street medicine, food security, and a mental health collaborative.
As a committed advocate for the vulnerable and underserved, Monica also has led several other initiatives through the formation of and participation in numerous non-profit organizations addressing various populations, including pregnant and parenting teens, victims of domestic violence and their children, at-risk youth, and those experiencing homelessness. Monica currently serves Blue Zones as the subject matter expert for health equity and as an account executive. Monica earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati, College of Law, and her Master of Science in Nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina.
