Chris Danley is the Blue Zones Built Environment Subject Matter Expert and owner of Vitruvian Planning. Having spent his youth in Southern California, he joined the US Navy and spent five years in Naval Aviation, traveling the world and experiencing exciting cultures and environments. Upon his honorable discharge, Chris earned his bachelor’s degree in social sciences from Chapman University before attending Eastern Washington University, where he earned a master’s degree in urban and regional planning. After graduating, Chris worked in the public and private sectors before starting his own company, Vitruvian Planning, in 2011. This pursuit allowed Chris to unite his passion for healthy living and his profession as an urban planner to improve community health and the built environment.

Chris is a recognized national expert in walkability and health impact assessments, is co-creator of the Looking Glass walk audit training academy, crafted the Activity Connection Plan™ and Healthy Conditions Assessment models, and started The Planning Commission podcast. Over his 20-year career, Chris has conducted planning and assessment projects throughout Idaho, North Carolina, Utah, Montana, California, and numerous other states. Chris is a certified Safe Routes to School and League of American Bicyclist instructor, former Board President of the National Physical Activity Society, current Boise Planning & Zoning Commissioner, a former personal trainer, coach, and most importantly, dad to two young girls.
