In Dan Buettner’s 2005 original cover story for National Geographic, Buettner and his team of researchers named Loma Linda, California, as the only “Blue Zones” area in the United States. Loma Linda University hosted the first International Symposium on Blue Zones Science & Health where experts from each of the five geographic locations gave updates on research.
