Is life best in the Rocky Mountains?
A new finding by National Geographic, New York Times bestselling author Dan Buettner, and Gallup ranks the 25 happiest cities in the country, and Boulder, Colorado is number one (population: 108,090, according to the latest U.S. Census).
“Bolstered by a sense of community, access to nature, sustainable urban development and preservation policies, and perhaps even that clean mountain air, Boulderites overwhelmingly feel ‘active and productive every day,’ according to Buettner’s research.”
The city also has the highest percentage of walking commuters in the country, which contributes to its high exercise rating, and among the lowest rates of smoking and obesity. The ranking was determined after nearly 250,000 interviews using 15 criteria that signal happiness, everything “from eating healthy and learning something new every day to civic engagement, financial security, vacation time, and even dental checkups.”
